da supremo: Former Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has been speaking about the atmosphere he is expecting when he returns to St Mary’s for the first time since joining Liverpool on Sunday, and Saints fans have been quick to have their say on his comments.
da marjack bet: The Dutchman left the south coast outfit in a £75m deal at the beginning of the January transfer window having failed to get the move he wanted during the summer, but he still came back into the first-team fold from September through until December – although he struggled to reproduce the form he had shown previously.
Speaking ahead of the clash this weekend, the 26-year-old said, via The Times: “Maybe they can boo the whole game. You can’t do anything about it. I made the decision. I have enjoyed every bit of it and I am very grateful for everything that they [Southampton] did for me. I have moved on, they have moved on.”
Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the centre-back’s comments, and while one said “don’t care what he thinks”, another said “shouldn’t waste our time with him”.
