da 888casino: According to reports in The Mirror, Everton are hoping to pull off an audacious £60m move to bring Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Goodison Park during the January transfer window.
What’s the word, then?
da spicy bet: Well, The Mirror says that Dortmund are ready to sell the prolific Gabon international in the New Year, and new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bring him to Merseyside as he finally looks to replace Romelu Lukaku.
Everton failed to find a successor to the Belgian during the summer, and with Sandro Ramirez struggling to adapt to English football the club has had to rely on the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the previously forgotten Oumar Niasse up top this term.
The Mirror says that while the 28-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League, many of the top English clubs have top-class frontmen meaning his options could be limited, and Allardyce is obviously hoping to take advantage of that fact.
How has Aubameyang done this season?
It has been another impressive campaign for the Gabonese centre-forward, even though he was left out of the squad for the Bundesliga clash against Stuttgart for disciplinary reasons and was also sent off in the 4-4 draw against Schalke last month.
However, the 28-year-old has still scored a remarkable 19 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions this term, including two against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Aubameyang has now netted 139 goals in 209 outings in total for Dortmund, as well as 19 in 49 caps for his country.
Could Everton really get him?
While the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea may not be interested in the 28-year-old, it will still be a huge struggle for Everton to convince the Gabon international to move to Goodison Park.
Their arch-rivals Liverpool may have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, but they don’t have an out-and-out centre-forward and Jurgen Klopp may feel that he needs one if the Reds are to challenge for the Premier League title.
Given their struggles this season, the only way the Toffees could attract Aubameyang is if they are willing to pay him a wage that the player can’t afford to turn down, but even then they would have to convince him of their ambition given what a brilliant goalscorer he is.
In reality, they have no chance.
