da apostaganha: Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in swooping for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, according to Don Balon.
da gbg bet: What’s the latest?
Benzema is no stranger to the gossip transfer pages having been linked with a switch to the Premier League for some time.
The French hitman was touted as a target for Arsenal last year, but a transfer failed to materialise, with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger instead opting to keep faith with Olivier Giroud.
Benzema’s name is being banded about yet again with a switch to England, and this time Chelsea have allegedly joined the hunting pack alongside Arsenal and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
As far as the Spanish publication is concerned, Madrid may be open to letting the forward leave next summer as they will still be able to get a decent price, preferably around the £50m-mark.
It has been reported that selling Benzema will free up space for the Spanish giants to recruit younger attacking players when their transfer embargo is lifted.
Which option would suit Benzema?
The forward seems to have been playing at the top level forever, but at the age of 28, Benzema still has plenty left in the tank.
Since moving to the Bernabeu from Lyon in 2009, the Frenchman has scored more than 160 goals and has made close to 300 appearances in La Liga for the club.
This season, Benzema has netted four goals in 11 league appearances, but he may feel as though it is time to test himself elsewhere before reaching the final years of his career.
The forward would fit into both Arsenal and Chelsea, but the clubs currently have attacking players firing on all cylinders.
Alexis Sanchez has netted 13 goals since taking on a centre-forward role under Wenger, while Diego Costa is thriving in manager Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system having found the back of the net on 11 occasions.
Having Benzema as an option would be a big boost to both squads, but considering the amount of cash that Madrid are likely to want, the transfer would only be worth it if he plays regularly.
Chelsea are more likely to offer him that if he was happy to play in a wider role, providing support to Costa.
