da dobrowin： Welcome back to our weekly article that looks at the Fantasy Premier League bandwagons, in which we discuss whether you should buy who everyone else is or monitor for the time being.
We also look at the players that managers have lost their patience in, and whether it could actually be a decent differential to hold onto amid the mass exodus. For example, last weekend 31,319 managers had enough of the misfiring Alexis Sanchez… I bet they’re regretting that call now!
Although this is a good week to save a free transfer before the international break, some of us cannot wait and are likely to make one big change ahead of Saturday’s kick-off, and we will give you the best options to consider and/or avoid.
Here are our verdicts on the current Bandwagons in the Fantasy Premier League!
Alexis Sanchez
After scores of 1, 5, 3, 3, 2, 2 in his opening six games, many were tired of holding on to 11.0 priced Alexis Sanchez in search of better options… but now they’ll be regretting their decision after last weekend’s hat-trick.
Now over 110,000 managers have brought in the Chile international at the time of writing, and his price has risen up to 11.1 since his goal-fest… and rightly so.
Sanchez is one of the few players that is almost fixture proof, but after the game against Manchester United on Sunday, the Gunners won’t face any of last season’s top five in the next eight games, with their trickiest fixtures against Everton and Tottenham… but both will be at the Emirates.
If you have the cash, BUY him.
Jamie Vardy
If someone said during the summer that seven games into the season Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy will be the Premier League’s top scorer, you would have received a slight chuckle and asked to stop drinking so much beer…
But at this rate, the 6.5 priced striker could end up as one of the league’s top scorers. With the injury to Bournemouth star Callum Wilson, over 301,000 managers (at the time of writing) have brought Vardy into their squads.
His form is brilliant, but more importantly so are Leicester’s fixtures. The Foxes play Norwich (Away), Southampton (Away), Crystal Palace (Home), West Brom (Away), Watford (Home), and Newcastle (Away) in their next six… giving even more opportunities for Vardy to rack up the points.
If you need a striker, BUY him.
Eric Dier
Eric Dier has suddenly become a Fantasy Football gem so far this season, as Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has deployed the now 5.1 priced defender in a defensive midfield role, giving him a better chance of attacking returns.
And it showed last weekend when he drove in a daisy-cutter against Manchester City, helping his team to a 4-1 victory.
However, we are advising you to not bring in the young Englishman (over 102,000 managers just did), as after their rather tricky game against Swansea this weekend, the international break will give injured midfield trio Moussa Dembele, Ryan Mason, and Nabil Bentaleb enough time to recover and fight for a first-team place.
If you are keen on a Spurs defender, get the slightly cheaper Toby Alderweireld (5.0), who is almost guaranteed a first-team spot.
Sergio Aguero
Yes we totally understand your frustration. After shelling out a massive 13.2 on Sergio Aguero, we have not reaped in the rewards for such an expensive player. Despite facing the likes of Watford and Crystal Palace, Aguero has only brought in one goal and managers have gotten fed up.
Over 37,000 managers (at the time of writing) have sold the Argentina international looking to free up space to upgrade other areas, but like Sanchez the week before, it could be a costly mistake.
City may have lost two games in succession, but they will face Newcastle, Bournemouth and Norwich ALL AT HOME in the next four… with only a tricky trip to Man United in between. And last time Aguero went to Old Trafford, he scored two.
Don’t let him go if you own him, even if he misfires again this weekend.
Pedro Rodriguez
We Fantasy Premier League managers are a fickle bunch aren’t we.
Only a few weeks ago everyone was ready to bring in Pedro (9.5) as cover for Chelsea, but now he’s already being dropped by almost 50,000 managers ahead of a rather kind schedule for the champions.
And yes, Chelsea ARE CHAMPIONS. They will very likely bounce back from their current ‘crisis’ to at least mount a challenge, but even if they don’t Pedro still stands a very good chance of pulling in the points.
The Blues play Southampton (Home), Aston Villa (Home), West Ham (Away), Liverpool (Home), Stoke (Away), and Norwich (Home) in their next six… and we are backing Pedro to be involved in anything good Chelsea do in those games.
Keep him too. Or Hazard… if you still own him.
