Bruno Lage has reportedly asked Wolves to sign both Goncalo Ramos and Henrique Araujo in the summer transfer window.
The Lowdown: Jimenez back-up needed
Losing Raul Jimenez to injury for the majority of the 2020/21 season was certainly a huge blow for the Molineux faithful in their hopes of finishing in the top half of the table in the Premier League and qualifying for European competition.
Young Fabio Silva was almost thrown in the deep end in his absence, and so the Midlands club could certainly do with some more cover for the Mexico international.
The Latest: Lage eyes Ramos and Araujo
As per TVI24 (via Cabine Desportiva), Lage has asked the Wanderers to sign strikers Ramos and Araujo from his former club Benfica.
Araujo is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, who has close connections with WWFC, and so a move for him would likely be made easier because of this.
The Verdict: Trust Lage
Having kept a closer eye on their development over the years at Benfica, Wolves should trust that Lage knows what he is doing in wanting to sign both strikers.
Although he played for Benfica’s B team last campaign, Ramos also made 12 appearances for the senior side, and for both teams combined, he scored no fewer than 15 goals and made a further four assists (Transfermarkt).
Araujo made 36 combined appearances for the B team and U23 side, scoring 19 times and supplying two assists (Transfermarkt).
Yes, they are relatively untested at the highest level, but at 20 and 19 years of age respectively, they will have plenty of potential, and Lage of all managers should know how to get the best out of them.
