da marjack bet:
da brwin: Marcelo Bielsa is undoubtedly one of the most studious characters in football. He’s been hailed as the best coach in the world by Pep Guardiola and his meticulous nature makes him a brilliant manager. However, as much as that is the case, it’s impossible not to admit that he’s a throwback and dare we say it, somewhat of a relic.Stories of the 64-year-old making his team go litter picking are well-known, and while that’s been seen by Patrick Bamford as a great exercise that made the team realise how privileged they were, you can imagine that some prima donnas with too much power in their heads wouldn’t be too pleased.Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below
Player power is probably more evident than it ever has been with Jose Mourinho’s comments 12 months ago showing just that.
Mourinho seemed to struggle at Manchester United with the likes of Paul Pogba and his supposed attitude problems, something that ultimately led to some rather sour remarks being made by the Portuguese. The clash of personalities was so much that United’s former manager described the French midfielder as ‘His excellency’.
In some ways, you can understand why Pogba thinks he’s the boss at Old Trafford. He’s the club-record signing, but unfortunately, this egotistical trend is filtering down to young players too.
Leeds target Ian Poveda seems to be one of these. The winger is reportedly looking for a way out of Manchester City after being sent back down to the U23s following a spell with the first-team.
The 19-year-old must rate himself very highly if he believes he deserves to be competing for a spot with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling, but Guardiola appears to have seen things differently, sending him back to the youth team.
Fortunately for the Spaniard, he isn’t the only person who rates his abilities. Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta reportedly think very highly of him, and he’s been heavily linked with a move to Leeds United.
However, if he moves to Elland Road he could find himself in a similar situation. He’d be competing with two of United’s star players in £15m signing Helder Costa and two-time Player of the Year winner Pablo Hernandez.
Usually, Bielsa would be able to slowly bed him into the squad, and in the past, he’s not hesitated to send his first-teamers back to the U23s.
Just look at this clip of Jamie Shackleton scoring for the youth side on Monday.
This is a man who has made 28 first-team appearances in the past two seasons scoring in what seems to be a field next to a car park against Crewe’s U23 side.
Poveda’s issues at City indicate that he wouldn’t be best pleased at having to play in such circumstances at Leeds, and perhaps this will be a bit of a learning curve for Bielsa.
The youngster will be tough to keep happy at Elland Road based on his reaction to being demoted at City, and Bielsa will potentially have to adapt his usual methods to keep him on side.
The Argentine will have to get used to dealing with these egos if Leeds go up to the Premier League, specifically if big names arrive and the squad enhances in size. Therefore, learning and guiding Poveda, providing he signs, could act as somewhat of a dress rehearsal. This will be a test for Bielsa, but one that he could learn from.
In other news, Phil Hay has poured cold water on Leeds’ pursuit of one striker.
